Job Overview

The Specialist, Physician Relations serves as the first point of and primary contact for all referrals initiated by a medical professional.  This role will build and maintain relationships with physicians and physician office representatives and create an expedited path for the patient through the financial, scheduling and treatment phases.  The Physician Referral Specialist directly partners with Empowerment, Business Services, Finance, Clinical/Hospital Operations, Clinical Staff, and Physician Relations.  In addition to managing the referral process, this role will also serve as the primary owner for internal and contracted medical staff to build engagement and referral growth.  Finally, the Physician Referral Specialist will also actively manage a portfolio of physician contacts that practice outside of designated geographies activated by Physician Relations field staff to build and maintain referral relationships.  This role will have extremely high visibility and responsibility for physician satisfaction and referral growth.  The role requires extensive experience with and knowledge of HIPAA and other regulations. 

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Healthcare Management, or related degree or related experience
  • 3-5 years of experience in healthcare setting, clinic preferred
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities that involve moderately complex issues
  • Strong process development skills
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office - Excel, Power point, Word, Outlook
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Extensive experience with and knowledge of HIPAA laws
  • Proven track record of success and desire to grow and assume greater responsibility
  • Actively demonstrates commitment to providing excellent customer service
  • Demonstrates ability to reach decisions, takes appropriate action and follow through
  • Extremely strong communication skills (both written and verbal)
  • Results oriented
  • Ability to work as part of a team to achieve common goals
  • Ability to think creatively and perform quickly
  • Proactive and organized
  • Must be proficient in Word, Excel and PowerPoint and possess ability to learn new computer applications
  • Must assure discreet and confidential handling of all business / understand HIPAA guidelines
  • Must be an exceptional listener, with the proven ability to problem-solve independently
  • Creative ability and take-charge, problem solving attitude are important
