Job Description:


Provide strategic leadership and direction to assess, develop, plan, implement and evaluate the delivery of nursing care services.  Support and promote the practice of clinically excellent nursing and quality patient outcomes in compliance with all Magnet ® standards.  Provide a systemic approach to Magnet® project management and implementation by developing, coordinating, and deploying all phases of the re-designation process:

In collaboration with the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO), assumes primary responsibility for ensuring that the organization milieu reflects the internalization of the five components of Magnet- Transformational Leadership, Structural Empowerment, Exemplary Professional Practice, New Knowledge, Innovations, and Improvements, to promote excellence in patient care services as evidenced by Empirical Outcomes. Designs processes and programs to support professional development related to education advancement and national certification of all nurses.

Identifies, develops, and maintains comprehensive data management systems that support information submission to the Magnet office and enables accurate tracking of key performance indicators.  Leads the shared governance/shared decision-making culture ensuring resources are allocated appropriately.

Develops, implements, and evaluates innovations in professional nursing practice and nursing education to improve outcomes and enhance the image of nursing across the organization and in the community.


Lead Magnet® Committees

  • Makes membership recommendations for Magnet® committees
  • Plans agendas and ensures minutes are taken and communicated
  • Provides guidance and mentoring for staff nurse committee members
  • Models the Magnet® philosophy throughout the organization Facilitate Development of Shared Governance/Shared Decision-Making System
  • Researches strategies regarding shared governance systems
  • Makes recommendations to appropriate committees regarding shared governance model
  • Facilitates education and training for shared governance system
  • Mentors staff nurses in their roles as chairs and participants in shared governance

Provide a strategic and systemic approach to Magnet® project management and implementation by coordinating all phases of the designation / re-designation process:

  • Completes application/Demographic data collection tool (DDCT)
  • Lead the interprofessional team through the document submission process: identifies appropriate evidence, review and edits all submissions, ensures evidentiary documentation complete, and ensures CNO approval and timely submission document writing,
  • Coordinates preparation, editing, and publication of the Magnet® document
  • Oversees preparation of the demographic data and organizational overview
  • Oversees system preparation for the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) Magnet® site visit
  • Interprets the American Nurses Association (ANA) Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics for the organization and facilitates the integration of both
  • Serves as Liaison to the ANCC Magnet® Program Office (MPO)

Strategically aligns, develops, deploys, and coordinates Magnet® Education and Staff Development    

  • Develops Magnet® educational materials and presentations for nursing and other staff
  • Mentors staff nurses in the Magnet® advocate role
  • Keeps management, administration and staff informed of the Magnet® program changes and activities
  • Facilitates Web communication regarding Magnet® standards
  • Provides support for staff in the development of unit-based communication, publication, and educational programs regarding nursing and Magnet®

Develops and Monitors the Magnet® Budget

  • Defines yearly objectives
  • Initiates and monitors the fiscal plan
  • Negotiates services or resources to meet nursing division objectives

Provides strategic consultation to other Divisions and Services

  • Works with marketing and public relations to produce Magnet® related publicity materials
  • Responds to department requests for Magnet® standards interpretation or input
  • Acts as a Resource to Customers Regarding Magnet® Standards and Process

Serves as Advisor to Nursing Leadership regarding Magnet® Standards

  • Facilitates nursing leadership understanding and integration of Magnet® standards into nursing practice
  • Promotes strategic planning addressing implementation of Magnet® Standards
  • Provides Magnet® information and data for nursing reports
  • Reviews and recommends changes to policies and procedures based on Magnet® standards
  • Interprets the National Database of Nursing Quality Indicators (NDNQI) database, reports and interventions



Experience: 5-7 years clinical practice, 4 to 5 years of progressive leadership experience within a healthcare setting, Magnet® experience preferred

Education: Master’s Degree in Nursing (MSN)

Licensure: RN, Arizona

Certification: CPHQ Specialty Certification within 12 months of hire

Special Skills: Microsoft Office Suite

Pay Range

$98,166.43 - $161,616.00

Placement within the identified pay range is based on individual and market factors including, but not limited to, experience, education, credentials (including licenses and certifications), geographic location, market competition, skill set (including market availability of required skills), assigned/anticipated job tasks, and level of responsibility.  These factors are considered without regard to an individual’s status as a member of any protect group pursuant to federal, state, and/or local law.
