Hours: Mon - Fri, No Call

Job Summary/Purpose:

The position supports the solid tumor medical oncology team.

The Advance Practice Provider (APP) is a highly knowledgeable professional provider, Physician Assistant (PA), Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN)/Nurse Practitioner (NP), who assumes responsibility for providing personalized care to patients. In this role, clinical assessment and interpretative skills, communication skills, and problem-solving techniques are used to deliver quality care to patients. This highly respected role supports patients and works in concert with physicians and care teams to meet the clinical needs of patients.

In order to fulfill these responsibilities, the position will perform tasks in collaboration with, or as directed by, the patient’s collaborating physician. The APP performs only those clinical tasks s/he is capable of and within the scope of their accrediting and licensing bodies, as well as the Medical Staff bylaws of CTCA. The APP will comply with all hospital by-laws, rules and regulations and will ensure all entries in the medical record are co-signed by the attending physician. APPs will prescribe medications as clinically indicated and allowed by state/federal licensing.

The APP role supports a broad scope of services and as such, the APP must be able to effectively interact with a variety of settings with both efficiency and urgency. The APP may see patients in the inpatient or outpatient setting. A high level of independence and critical thinking is required in this role. The ability to assess concerns with a collaborative team approach is essential. Hours for the APP role will vary based on patient care and business needs; the ability to be flexible is necessary.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Current State of Illinois license (Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner)

  • Illinois Controlled Substance license

  • Unrestricted DEA

  • Minimum one year of experience

Essential Physical Requirements:

  • Job is light to medium in nature, requiring occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds maximum (i.e. assisting patients).

  • Ability to remain stationary 1-4 hours per day.

  • Ability to be mobile 6-8 hours per day.

  • Ability to perform simple grasping, pushing, pulling, bending, squatting, stooping (i.e. to assess patient’s condition).

  • Ability to communicate effectively with hospital staff and patients (hearing/speech).

  • Ability to travel between facilities (i.e. hospital and clinic).

  • Employees within this job classification will have exposure to blood borne pathogens or other potentially infectious materials, and/or hazardous chemicals/waste.
