Job Description:

The Decision Support Analyst is responsible for performing various analyses on revenue, pricing, reimbursement, cost, margin, service utilization, and quality at the direction of management.  Whether reporting to the corporate-based, centralized Decision Support team or based within an individual hospital, this role is universal in the expectation to work together as a team to provide meaningful information for the company’s decision makers.  The Analyst will be expected to use CTCA’s Decision Support system called EPSi, becoming both a versatile user as well as a contributor to its continuous improvement.   In addition to work involving EPSi, the Analyst will also be expected to work with his or her peers to tackle analytical problems using standardized approaches and workarounds to the extent possible.  Analysts are also expected to contribute ideas with the Decision Support team and Information Technology in support of data warehousing and business intelligence initiatives.

  • Run reports already developed in EPSi as requested and work with the Decision Support team to create new reports, following the Decision Support approval process already established for the purpose of obtaining executive approval and maintaining standardization.  These reports may include revenue by disease, reimbursement by payor, CPT utilization, bundled pricing performance, and pricing analyses, among others.
  • Help develop and maintain the various data elements in EPSi that are needed to keep CTCA’s cost accounting system updated and relevant.  Work with individual department heads to develop Relative Value Units, and train them as end-users of EPSi so that they can get reports and dashboards that deliver meaningful information to them.  Also, maintain facility-wide overhead allocation statistics such as square footage studies, productive hours, etc. in accordance with corporate cost accounting standards.
  • Perform various reconciliations as directed to ensure that automated data pulls continue to balance to their source systems.  This could include Lawson recons for revenue, expenses, and statistics; AMPFM recons for transaction detail; and possibly ADP recons for payroll data.  Identify reconciliation issues and report to Decision Support management, and if necessary, assist in the development of solutions to identified issues.
  • Contribute toward the development of new and standardized metrics for the enhancement of financial analyses.  The Analyst will need to think beyond traditional healthcare definitions and be entrepreneurial in thinking about ways to measure the business.  For example, as CTCA develops its cost accounting system into future advanced stages, certain CAM services will need to be tracked by patient.  This could mean developing "shadow charges" in the CDM or adopting the use of barcodes to monitor patient consumption of traditionally non-billable services.
  • Support the CTCA Finance Team in other initiatives including but not limited to: pricing analysis, Medicare cost reporting, and other ad hoc analysis.

Education/Experience

  • Minimum of a BS/BA in Business, Finance, Accounting, or related field. 
  • 2-3 years healthcare finance experience preferred, and demonstrated knowledge of cost reporting a plus. 
  • Will consider candidates with no prior healthcare experience if they can demonstrate strong analytical and accounting skills. 

Knowledge and Skills

  • Must have a strong background in financial analysis and financial modeling. 
  • An advanced understanding of Microsoft Excel is necessary, familiarity with health information systems and databases is preferable, and experience with cost reporting software would be helpful too.  
  • Familiarity with Medicare’s reimbursement methodologies, related industry terminology, and Program regulations is required. 
  • Familiarity with other third party payers’ reimbursement provisions is preferred, but not required provided the Analyst is able to think critically and creatively.
