Job Overview

The Senior Advisor, Payer Relations will lead payor/network contracting efforts and support high-level payor/network negotiations. Senior Advisor, Payer Relations will work closely with leadership on complex network challenges to support the development of operational objectives, and will lead and drive project management, analysis of data, and strategic contract performance improvement initiatives.   Senior Advisor, Payer Relations may also act as an operational and strategic advisor, partnering with stakeholders from other business areas on special projects. The Senior Advisor, Payer Relations is a subject matter expert as it relates to the development of payor/network contracts.  The position reports to VP, Access (Payor Relations)

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate and review activities of Account Manager related to operational excellence, contract performance and the accurate and timely loading of contracts and rates. 
  • Develop and lead the execution of national and regional contracting initiatives, including negotiations and provider relations functions.  Interface with senior leadership on the development and execution of complex payor/network contracting strategy.
  • Use, create, and synthesize data to develop and drive internal contracting and departmental strategies.
  • Proactively track and report all contracting efforts and the strategy at large.  Conduct regular status updates with core team, and provide management with a clear sense of progress and understanding of any marketplace changes (major insurance, network and reimbursement issues, changes in legislation or in guidelines at the federal levels) during the course of the performance year.
  • Provide support and representation with executive audiences, across all team segments, as needed.  Assist the executive team in developing contacts and relationships for the payer markets in newly targeted regions as needed.  Work closely with the Business Development team to build and work with relationships already established.

Education and Skills:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, Health Care Administration or a related field required. Master’s preferred.
  • Prior health care provider or health plan contracting, contract operations, service operations, or provider relations experience.
  • Excellent negotiation skills with a verifiable track record of results.
  • Strong Attention to Detail.
  • Hospital, ASC and Physician reimbursement experience is essential to this role.
  • At least 7 years of Payer or Provider contracting and reimbursement experience.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of all Microsoft Office applications, Excel, Access and multi-dimensional databases.
  • Proficiency in analyzing, understanding and communicating financial trends
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; may be required to make presentations to payors/networks.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment and exercise independent judgement on matters of significance.
