Job Description:

Job Overview

The Nurse Practitioner is a provider working under the supervision of a physician. 

Overall responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Assists the attending physician or surgeon in providing a variety of patient care activities including writing orders, conducting rounds, and performing procedures

Performs a variety of duties under the supervision of the attending physician or surgeon which may include daily rounds, completing progress notes or assisting the surgeon in the operating room

Performs or assists in routine laboratory, screening, therapeutic, diagnostic or patient care procedures

Reviews treatment and therapy plans

Orders therapy treatments, diagnostic laboratory and radiological tests/procedures, and therapeutic diets as necessary

Instructs and counsels patients in matters relating to health care management including diet, medication, growth and development, and physical and mental health

Obtains and records detailed and accurate medical histories

Performs complete physical examinations as necessary

Communicates changes in patient condition to attending physician or surgeon

Acts as a liaison between nursing staff or other services and physician

Facilitates referral of patients to health facilities, agencies and community resources

Reviews observations and completes patient charting

Sees patients in the office for cancer surveillance and perioperative care

Performs female pelvic examination as part of routine gynecologic cancer surveillance

Recognizes and evaluates situations which call for immediate attention of the supervising surgeon or attending physician

As necessary, utilizes treatment procedures essential to preserve the life of the patient

Completes written documentation

Establishes and maintains interpersonal relationships with patients, families, and other healthcare personnel, while assuring confidentiality of patient information

Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to maintain certification/licensure, and/or keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise

Follows established City of Hope and department policies, procedures, objectives, performance improvement, attendance, safety, environmental, and infection control guidelines

Practices a high level of integrity and honesty in maintaining confidentiality

Provides direct support for the inpatient unit. Serves as the primary liaison between the team, clinicians, and patients to ensure continuity of patient care. 

Consults with the referring physicians to determine the appropriate interventions for patients and serves as a clinical resource.

Responsible for entering orders in the hospital EMR for medications in accordance with the hospital and state guidelines, admission orders, labs, imaging tests, IV fluids etc. as needed.  

Responsible for timely and accurate documentation. Responsible for H&Ps, participates in consults and follow-up visits, provides patient education, and obtains informed consents.

Responsible for the overall coordination of patient care; improves patient flow and communication with clinicians, stakeholders and patients.  Assists in other clinical areas as needed.

Responsible for maintaining current licensure and certifications. Participates in stakeholder development and training.   Attends the required meetings as requested to team and department goals

Leadership/Accountability - Provides and carries out the mission of the hospital and enterprise.  Assist with the development of departmental policies and procedures.  Performs other duties as requested by supervising physician.

Education/Experience Level

  • Current Georgia RN license and Georgia Advance Practice-NP licenses required.
  • National Board certification by the American Nursing Credentialing Center (ANCC), or the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP)
  • ACLS
  • BLS
  • ONS certification (optional)
  • AOCNP (optional)

Pay Range

$101,111.00 - $166,464.00

Placement within the identified pay range is based on individual and market factors including, but not limited to, experience, education, credentials (including licenses and certifications), geographic location, market competition, skill set (including market availability of required skills), assigned/anticipated job tasks, and level of responsibility.  These factors are considered without regard to an individual’s status as a member of any protect group pursuant to federal, state, and/or local law.
