The Pharmacy Analyst reports to the Manager of Pharmacy Business Services. This resource is as a key player in the maturing of Corporate Pharmacy’s analytical and business intelligence capabilities for managing the pharmacy annual revenue stream. Managing this volume of data requires a focused resource who can provide insightful analytics in order to enable informed and timely business decisions.

Accordingly, the Pharmacy Analyst will assist with planning, organizing and maintaining data sources for pharmacy’s business intelligence strategy, in part by partnering with IT to determine the best way to store and mine information. The Analyst will be responsible for delivering routine management metrics to the Corporate and Site Pharmacy teams, as well as conducting ad hoc analysis to support various initiatives. Functions that will be covered include purchasing, prescribing/ordering, billing, collections, expenses, revenue, and clinical outcomes, as well as what-if business modeling. The analyst will assist with: assessing operations and making recommendations to leadership; providing translations, analyses and interpretations of information; and assisting with project management for the various enterprise initiatives.

More specifically, analysis conducted will include the following:

  • Drug margin analysis comparing acquisition cost (as well as ASP, AWP, and WAC) of common doses to charged amounts;
  • Differences between AWP, ASP, WAC, and Acquisition Cost to assist with pharmacy pricing strategy;
  • Price optimization analysis based on products used and external benchmark data available;
  • Formulary purchasing analysis monitoring usage post-formulary decisions;
  • Revenue modeling to support the Pharmacy Pricing Committee;
  • Assessing the overall pharmacy pricing logic, including Hard Coded Modeling, Billing for Waste, and AWP updates
  • Off-label drug usage analysis and monitor reimbursement trends;
  • Assist in managing the pharmacy revenue cycle, from acquisition and pricing through billing, reimbursement, and denials;
  • Manage manufacturing reimbursement programs for drug waste;
  • Wholesaler and GPO purchasing analysis; and
  • Contract price audits to ensure appropriate pricing.


  • BS/BA in Business or related field required
  • 2-3 years' experience in analyst or consulting position preferred
  • Hospital, healthcare payer and purchasing experience in preferred
  • Must have strong analytical skills, and reporting experience to key business users.
  • Must have management communication and reporting experience, including conducting personal analysis and providing recommendations to management.
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
  • Must have experience working with internal customers in a reporting role and developing business requirements.
  • Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Excel is required.
  • SQL, Qlikview, Access & Powerpoint are preferred.
  • Must have experience working with IT on business requirements for performance management tools (e.g., scorecards, dashboards).
  • Evidence of continuing education that is directly related to the job specification.
  • Familiarity with “Lean” processes is preferred, A-3 Training and Green Belt is beneficial.
  • Lawson or similar ERP system experience a plus.
  • Knowledge of IT project lifecycle a plus.
